Pouilly Fumé 2004, Michel Redde, Pouilly Fumé. £10.99 Pouilly-sur-Loire is situated on the banks of the eponymous river immediately opposite its equally illustrious neighbour, Sancerre. Both of these wines have come to epitomise the elegance and finesse that France can offer as a riposte to the more robust, alcoholic wines of the New World. This is an aromatic version, with ripe green fruit aromas allied to the classic flinty, minerally smells and flavours of Pouilly Fumé. Made from 100% unoaked sauvignon blanc, this is unlikely to age much; it is designed to be drunk young, fresh and vibrant. Excellent with another speciality of the region, Chavignol goats cheese.
